So I decided to give imeem a whirl. They just came out with a mac beta and I have to say I’m impressed. Usually the companies who try to create an app for all platforms end up making 3 shitty products. imeem has managed to make at least one good product (I haven’t tried the Windows version). It is very cocoa and feels like a quality mac app. It reminds me of Pando because they obviously have a separate Mac and Windows team, but both produce a really polished app. Anyway, if you have ever used a site like facebook or myspace you will instantly know how to work imeem. It offers you the ability to post blogs, post photos, post files, and chat with other members. It seems like a pretty active community (although I couldn’t find someone to chat with in any of the “meem” chat rooms). The unfortunate fact is that you really have to know people on it in order for it to be at all interesting. Usually those people should be actual people that are in your actual life. This poses a problem for me considering facebook has a stranglehold on the social network market in my parts. This isn’t a bad thing since I enjoy using facebook, but I have a feeling I would enjoy imeem more. Now, to go out and switch everyone!
Update: I’ve been informed this isn’t a cocoa app at all! I didn’t even bother to see if it had any nibs. Wow, go mono!
Take a closer look – it *is* a Cocoa app, it’s just using a Mono back-end. Look at all those nibs in English.lproj.
True. Awesome software. Has some glitches, but it’s a damn fine beta.
