CRAP. Oh well. I got to see Laura Veirs in Dallas and it was amazing. It was a really small venue with only about 40 people. I got a picture with her and a signed album, Year of Meteors, which is an amazing album if you haven’t heard it. Her new album, Saltbreakers, is amazing too. I really hope she tours again…

Good! I agree!

Then Gruber posted an interesting analysis of it which I also agree with.

One thing I think that Apple could do that Gruber didn’t really think could happen is partially un-DRM their music. If indie record labels would agree (which they have said they would), Apple could make it a big deal that they have un-DRMed music. Maybe even make it a special section of the store and put a big “No DRM” tag on each song. This really could put pressure on the big 4 record labels to offer their music in the same unprotected format.

So two favorite spheres of my life (politics and music) and my favorite representatives from both are about to totally collide. Steven Colbert called The Decemberists out a week back or so, for kind of lifting his Green Screen Challenge idea. The Decemberists did a music video in front of a green screen and allowed their fans to fill in the background. Colbert faux criticized them in his new “Who’s riding my coattails now” segment. Most bands would maybe say something funny on their website about it, but mostly just blow it off. Not The Decemberists. Their response on pitchfork was, and I quote, “We’d like to announce the very first ‘Decemberists vs Stephen Colbert Guitar Solo Challenge’. Put down the pen, Colbert, and pick up the axe! Let’s see what kind of a man you really are– let’s SHRED”. They challenged Colbert to a guitar solo competition!! So now the stage is set and on December 20 (Colbert was nice enough to give The Decemberists homefield advantage by having the context in December…), the two will face off on The Colbert Report. I’m definitely having a watch party.

Yay! I’m a NNW dinosaur!

So I guess I’ve been pretty busy lately, but I got to see The Decemberists in Dallas, Texas a little more than a month ago. Man, they were amazing. Their new album, The Crane Wife is a must listen to. If you are in any of these cities, do yourself a favor and mark your calendar and buy a ticket. Laura Viers has also caught my ear recently. She sings a duet on Yankee Bayonet in The Crane Wife and her solo stuff is quite good.

Something a little strange happened the other day. School was actually cancelled for 2 days due to snow/ice. It was awesome. 4 day weekend! Played some snow football and basically just did nothing.

School is about to end, just one more week. I am quite looking forward to that. It is going well and all, but I’m just kind of tired of it now. I’ve got some neat little coding projects planned and some plans to expand on previous projects. I’m hoping the break will be productive in that respect.

Note: The site looks a little funky because my .mac ran out and there are some support images hosted there. I renewed, but not I just have to enter my activation thing so it should be back to normal tonight.
